Yes, it's still Christmas around here.

How funny it was last week at Hamiltopia when I said that our Christmas decorations, including the tree, were still up and teenaged Liv looked at me and said with as much tenderness as she could muster, "That's kind of depressing." We've held onto trees and decorations a long time in previous years, but maybe it's because we haven't even had a tree since 2004 that I've lingered so long over this one. I recall my dad telling me, growing up, that life would seem to go by even more quickly as I got older, and that has definitely been true. And it DOES seem like I just put that tree up, even though it was a good six (or seven?) weeks ago. I'm thinking of hanging on until next week when it's our turn to host the weekly Hamiltopia meal. Or maybe--with thoughts of not wanting Liv to feel depressed when she comes--it will inspire me to take everything down. Sigh. For now, I'll just soak them up for at least a few more days.

Well do you know what Diego does each year-we take down our tree and he drags it out back and plops it in the ground. I told him a tree without roots wouldn't grow or stay green-guess what we had a green christmas tree in the yard until the end of May. Yep, he did it again this year!! Now that is keeping Christmas around for a long time.

I love you people!! (I remember seeing that root-less, green Christmas tree from last year out in your yard, Aunt Barbara--Diego is a hoot! And Lura, your Easter tree takes the CAKE.)

Aren't real trees a fire hazard after a little while there?

The tree is still drinking water, which is a good sign that it's not terribly dry yet. We only put the lights on when we're home, and it isn't near any other sources of heat--but thanks for the concern!

My grandmother keeps her (fake) tree up year round AND decorates it for all the different holidays. Yes, if genetics have any influence, this is the kind of tacky I have coming to me...
