Today I awoke feeling like my head was a giant pumpkin. The girls each got up, grabbed a book and snuggled in bed to read while I slowly emerged from my stupor. (I think I'm fighting something.)
Eventually we got ourselves together to go to the farmers' market. As I grabbed the bags, Alan looked at me, made a face, and said, "You sure you want to go like that?" I'd pulled a skull-cap down over my unwashed hair and was wearing sweats.
I looked at Alan incredulously. "What?" then back at the girls, "You girls don't mind what I'm wearing, do you?" They both shook their heads no. Then I added, "I'm not going to embarrass you or anything, am I?"
I looked at Evelyn, who was smiling warmly and still shaking her head no.
I looked at Amelia, who also shook her head no, then added, "But you'll embarrass yourself."

Note to Self
If you get home from work and your children are jumping up and down about how AMAZING Daddy's dinner was and HURRY UP and come HAVE some and you WON'T BELIEVE how GOOD the FRITTATA is and come NOW we have your serving on a PLATE and it's WARM...
...and you sit down to eat it and all eyes are riveted to you as you take your first bite...
Then your husband and children have likely conspired to sprinkle it generously with cayenne pepper.
In which case, you should eat the whole thing calmly and without seeming to notice a thing. :)

Bounce Party
Evelyn went to a classmate's birthday party at a trampoline place.
Obviously she thought it was awesome.

Things Moms Love to Hear
Amelia: Mom! I love this dinner! I love when you make dinners that I love! (It was grilled cheese. I guess she has yet to develop the appreciation for Pakistani Kima and Ethiopian Lentil Bowl.)
And...
And...
Evelyn: I don't want to grow up to be a nasty, loud, sassy teenager with my pants pulled down so my underwear is showing. I want to be a NICE teenager!

Questions
Evelyn loves to ask questions at bedtime. They most often start with phrases like, "When you were a little girl..." or "Did you ever feel like..." It's sweet. Her questions are really out of the blue, and we enjoy the time together.
However, I'm afraid I'm a bit of a disappointment when the tables are turned. Like tonight:
EVELYN: Ok, Mom. Now YOU ask ME questions. And make them GOOD--you know, like UNUSUAL questions.
ME: Hmmmm. Ok. So, have you ever felt a nervous feeling in your stomach but you weren't sure why?
EVELYN: (pause) Mom, really? That's not a very creative question.
ME: Ummm...did you ever think you could tell the future and you could see what you were going to be when you grew up?
EVELYN: (leaning her head back in frustration) MOM! No, I mean like ask really creative questions.
ME: (a little irritated) Did you ever play a game with someone where they wanted you to ask creative questions and every time you thought of one they shot you down until you didn't even want to play the game anymore?
EVELYN: (big grin) YES! Now THAT'S a good question!!

Inheritances
One of my dad's brothers has this uncanny ability to contort his face to the point of being unrecognizable.
He was very funny and when I was a kid he pretty much had movie star status in my life.
Now, I think I know someone who may have inherited a shred of this talent.
(By the way, it was at Amelia's request that I post these on the blog.)
These are only a few of the zillions of selfies Amelia has enjoyed taking since I got my new phone.
She loves that she can see herself as she takes the pics.
This particular face (taken while performing on a stump as we walked from our car to the farmers' market), makes me think of my Uncle Chuck. I will have to find some examples of his artistry to post. :)
